Aloha - What this blog is all about - “Pulp Fiction Style”

September 1st, 2001 · No Comments

Aloha,

Welcome to the personal blog for Deborah Cole & John-Paul Micek.

This is where we’ll share our personal story “Pulp Fiction Style” (as in… backwards, forwards, jumping time all around). We’ll be going “back in time” and pulling out pages from our personal journal to share what our BIG MOVE was like…

our hopes,
our dreams,
our fears,
our tears…

hey! that rhymes ! didn’t even mean to do that either…

For most of our lives (other than a stint in Paris, and Palm Beach) we’ve both been residents of good ol’New Jersey, USA . But, on September 1st, 2001, we seized the day! We sold our home, completed the sale of one last business we were still holding onto, and had a moving sale to sell all of our furniture to make the move of a lifetime.

We packed up our summer clothes, (and a few winter jackets - “just in case” … more on that in a future post) boxed up our books (ok, ok, ok, don’t harp on me here. I gave “some” books away - but a girls gotta have her vices - right?) The good china and our “famous pots and pans” were the last of the boxes loaded on the moving truck that was headed for a boat ride journey - final destination: thousands of miles away… on an island.

Yep! An island. We prepared for our Oct 1, 2001 flight to move 5,987.56 miles away from our home town to the island of Oahu.

Hawaii here we come!

We fell in love with the islands of Hawaii a year ago while we were vacationing for a month (ok, well, there was a little business involved too… but since it was a Date With Destiny week with Tony Robbins - I still count that time as vacation time - so back off with the work-aholic comments… unless you are one too! well then - comment away in the box below - so I know I’m not alone!).

This blog will share the ups, the downs, the joys and the tears of our journey - from personal pages of our journal - to videos of our new backyard - in Hawaii.

We’ll also share the “Business Owner’s Lifestyle” as we share videos from our business trips, with friends from around the world… perhaps you’re one of them - and that’s what brought you here! If so - be sure to comment on the posts where your gorgeous face shows up in our lives.

September 1, 2001 is the day the deal went down.

Pursuing our dreams while leaving everything familiar behind.

We purchased our Beach Front Home in Hawaii, and sold our 3 acre NJ home where we had just spent the last 7 years of our married life, building a life, a business and a home for ourselves.

Believe it or not, it was difficult making that final decision, to leave everything familiar behind, for uncharted waters.

John-Paul had us set up with such a gorgeous inside AND “outside home” as he put his professional landscaping talents to work. We enjoyed complete privacy in what our friends described as “a country-club setting”, nestled in the pristine “country” where open fields were the norm, back in Neshanic Station, New Jersey.

I stood on the deck by our pool, as we signed the paperwork making it official… wondering…

“Are we doing the right thing?”

What lies before us?

Will we love Hawaii as much as we dream?

Or will we long for our “comfortable” life and regret making such a drastic move?

Today begins the adventure of a lifetime! I hope you enjoy the ride with us!
